Brickwork Repairs FAQ

Everything you need to know about our brickwork repairs service in Melbourne. Can't find your answer? Call us directly.

Can you match existing mortar colour?
Yes, we colour-match mortar to blend seamlessly with existing brickwork. We carry a range of mortar colours, oxides, and can custom mix to achieve the right shade for heritage and modern properties.
What's the difference between repointing and tuckpointing?
Repointing involves removing and replacing deteriorated mortar joints. Tuckpointing is a decorative technique using two contrasting mortar colours to create the illusion of very fine joints, common on heritage Melbourne homes. We do both.
How long does repointing last?
Quality repointing should last 25-50 years depending on exposure. We use the correct mortar type for your brick (lime mortar for soft heritage bricks, cement-based for harder modern bricks) to ensure longevity.
Can you fix cracks in brick walls?
Yes, we repair structural cracks using crack stitching (helical bars epoxied into mortar joints) and cosmetic cracks through repointing. For cracks caused by subsidence, we'll recommend a structural engineer assessment first.
Do you repair retaining walls?
Yes, we repair and repoint brick, block, and stone retaining walls. This includes replacing damaged blocks, repointing mortar, installing weep holes for drainage, and applying waterproofing membranes where needed.
Do you work on heritage-listed buildings?
Yes, we have experience with heritage properties and understand the requirements for lime mortar, appropriate repair techniques, and maintaining original character. We can work with heritage consultants when required.
